Populonia rises on the Gulf of Baratti on the northern tip of the Piombino promontory and is the only large Etruscan city truly on the sea. There are three sites that can be visited: the Acropolis of Populonia in Upper Populonia and the necropolis of Grotte and San Cerbone with entrance to the Gulf of Baratti. The visit to these three sites is subject to a fee. For lovers of adventure and walking there is also the necropolis of Buca delle Fate
